Daly tests Indy Lights with Sam Schmidt Motorsports
Conor Daly Indy Lights test
Conor Daly had his first taste of an Indy Lights car at Putnam Park road course, Greencastle, Indiana on Wednesday August 11th when he completed a 200 mile test with Sam Schmidt Motorsports. During one of the hottest days of the year, with a heat index of 105 degrees and a track temperature of 134 degrees, Daly worked through a variety of setups before doing a simulated qualifying run at the end of the day.
"We have followed Conor closely this season and wanted to give him a run in one of our cars sometime. By sheer chance and with only 48 hours notice, the opportunity presented itself yesterday,” said team owner, Sam Schmidt. "He did everything we expected of him."
"I was very curious to feel the horsepower. It was the hottest, yet one of the most enjoyable days of testing ever for me. Whenever I get into a new car I try not to just drive it fast but to drive it right. It was very different to anything I have ever driven. After 200 miles in that heat, I'll sleep well tonight,” said Daly.
Daly currently leads the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear after six poles and five wins. His next race in Trois Rivières, Quebec Canada, Sunday August 15th.
