Abu Dhabi F1 preparations ahead of schedule
Yas Marina Circuit is well advanced in its preparations for the 2010 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which is now just two weeks away.

This week, workers were busy sandblasting the paint around the track perimeter while the circuit's trademark turquoise color is being re-applied on the internal roads.

The Shams Tower, from where the royal family will watch the Grand Prix, has been freshly jet-washed, and work crews are power-washing the roof and grandstand canopies throughout the circuit.

Landscapers are laying fresh turf while direction signs are being put up around the venue.

Range of entertainment

In the oasis areas, workers are busy erecting tents that will house public entertainment, including health spas, nail art, race simulators, refreshments and children's play areas.

Other stands are being built to cater to live music, BMX bikers, break dancers, skateboarding and other activities.

Track designers are preparing to map out the course on top of freshly laid tarmac for the new Yas Kartzone, where youngsters will be able to try their driving skills throughout the weekend. The track will then be opened for adults and children after the event.

"The eyes of the world will be on Yas Marina Circuit from November 12 to 14 and we want to look our very best," said Richard Cregan, Chief Executive Officer of the circuit.

"The level of excitement is very high, especially since it looks as if the world championship will be settled here. We still have some tickets left for public sale, but they are selling fast. I would urge anyone who is interested in attending to make sure they get theirs now." Gulf News
