Barber Motorsports Park to host 3-day IndyCar test session The IZOD IndyCar Series will return to Barber Motorsports Park in March for its preseason open test session.
The three-day session March 14-16 will include the open-wheel series' top teams and drivers, as well as its two development programs -- the Firestone Indy Lights Series and the Star Mazda Series. A decision has not been made yet whether the session will be open to the public.
"We are pleased to have the IZOD IndyCar Series back again to test at our facility, and we hope that it provides more opportunity to promote the event in April," said Zoom Motorsports President Gene Hallman said. "Barber Motorsports Park is a very technical track and the more familiar the drivers get with the layout, the better the racing will be."
The test session is less than two weeks before the IndyCar season-opening race at St. Petersburg on March 27. The series returns to Barber's 2.38-mile road course on April 8-10 for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.
Zoom, which promotes races at Barber, will restrict the number of ticket sold for the day of the race this year. Last year's race drew so many fans there were not enough shuttles to get people to remote parking lots quickly enough after the race.
This year there will be more shuttles, but also a limit on the number of tickets available. Tickets can be purchased at www.barbermotorsports.com and, for the first time, can be printed out at home.
