Flying Lizard enters two cars for Le Mans Flying Lizard announced today that the team will field two Porsche 911 GT3 RSR entries at the 2011 24 Heures du Mans, to be held June 11-12 at the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France. The full entry list was unveiled today by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) in a press conference in Paris. The Flying Lizard entries are the No. 80, which will compete in the GT Endurance Pro class and the No. 81, which will compete in the GT Endurance Am class. (Beginning in 2011, the newly named GT Endurance category comprises two classes: GTE Pro and GTE Am. For details, see www.lemans.org.) The team received one automatic entry for winning the 2010 American Le Mans Series GT drivers' championship (Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Long in the No. 45 Porsche); the ACO also awarded the team a second entry for 2011.
"We are honored to accept both entries for the 2011 24 Heures du Mans and to be able to support the ACO's vision for the expanded GT class," said Flying Lizard team principal Seth Neiman. "This is the first year that we will enter two cars at Le Mans; we appreciate the opportunity offered by the ACO in granting us a second entry. In 2011, we are increasing our focus on the important long distance events and Le Mans is a significant part of that program."
The full driver lineup will be announced later this Spring. Confirmed drivers are Joerg Bergmeister in the No. 80 Porsche and Seth Neiman in the No. 81 Porsche. Bergmeister is readying for his fourth consecutive season with the team in the American Le Mans Series, driving the No. 45 Flying Lizard Porsche with Patrick Long. Seth Neiman drives the No. 44 Porsche in the ALMS with teammate Darren Law.
Flying Lizard will not be able attend the Le Mans test day in April due to the short turnaround between the ALMS Long Beach race and the test day. As the team has previously competed in the 24 Heures du Mans, it is not required to attend the test day.
Flying Lizard has competed in the 24 Heures du Mans for six consecutive years: 2005 to 2010. The Flying Lizard No. 80 finished third in 2005, fourth in 2006, and sixth in 2008.
