Signs of progress at Formula 1 site in Elroy
Signs of progress can clearly be seen on FM 812 in Elroy, the site of the Formula 1 Texas racetrack.

If passersby glance past the earth movers on the F1 site they can just make out the outline of a soon-to-be state of the art race track.

“The neat part about the construction site right now is that you can actually see the contours of where the race track is going to be,” said Jeff Hahn, the owner of Hahn Texas, a public relations firm hired by F1 promoters in February.

Hahn Texas shared never-before-seen video with KVUE on Friday which clearly shows the outline of the tracks’ straightaway.

“The difficult story to tell about the site is the scale of this project," said Hahn.  "The track itself is 3.4 miles from a loop standpoint, but the property and how it fills up that space is just astonishing.”

Locals in Elroy have also noticed the dramatic changes to the site.

“I'd say not more than less than two months ago, there was a whole field of trees, brush and everything, and within the last month it's completely bare,” said Graham Sonnenberg, owner of The Elroy Café which opened up almost two weeks ago just down the road from the F1 site.

As far as running on schedule, an F1 spokesperson says not to worry.

“Right now as it stands, all of our construction milestones are on track," said Hahn.  "It's an aggressive schedule. We are planning on a June 2012 opening day. Now it's not unusual. A lot of other tracks like this have been built in the same amount of time.”

Representatives from F1 are expected to be in Elroy sometime in mid-April to meet with the locals in hopes of getting feedback on the massive project. KVUE.com
