Only in NASCAR...... Only in NASCAR can a man this old race professionally. James Hylton will attempt to break his own record as the oldest driver to compete in a NASCAR Nationwide Series race as the 76-year-old will attempt to qualify for the Royal Purple 200 Friday at Darlington Raceway.
Hylton will drive the No. 0 for the JD Motorsports team owned by Johnny Davis with sponsorship from G&K Services. As of Thursday morning, there were only 41 entries for the event, so Hylton should make the 43-car field. If more than 43 cars show up, then he would have to make the race on speed.
Still racing in the ARCA Series, Hylton has not competed in a Nationwide event since the July race at Daytona in 2008.
"I want to thank G&K Services for coming aboard to give me the opportunity to do something that will never get old to me,” Hylton said in a news release. “I am excited to be a part of the Nationwide Series. Johnny and I have a long history together."
