First look at next generation IndyCar concepts The selection process of the next generation of IZOD IndyCar Series car began in earnest last May, and details regarding engine specifications and the rolling chassis followed in early summer.
On May 10, two tangible show cars representing road/street course and superspeedway bodywork concepts by Dallara Automobili for 2012 will be unveiled on IndyCar Open Wheel Weekly on VERSUS (4 p.m. ET, with a re-broadcast at 11 p.m. Pacific).
"The idea behind these is to show two totally different-looking vehicles that underneath are the same chassis," project manager Tony Cotman said. "Will these be exactly what Dallara's kits are going to look like on road courses and ovals next year? No. What you'll see at Indy are two cars that show potential designers, 'If you want to build aero kits, these two cars will both be legal. Dream as you wish, design as you wish, produce as you wish.' "
The show cars will be on display in the Pagoda Plaza at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway through the May 29 Indianapolis 500.
