Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel edged out Fernando Alonso to set fastest time in the opening practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg was third for Mercedes, half a second down, followed by Alonso's teammate Felipe Massa and the two McLarens of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
Last year's winner Mark Webber had a gearbox issue on his Red Bull meant he only completed three slow installation laps and did not set a time.
