Video: Suzuka 1989 Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna Commentator blames Ayrton Senna for accident but if you watch overhead video closely it was Alain Prost who turned in too early on purpose to try and prevent Senna from passing him. The proper turn-in point Prost would have taken normally had to be later to even make the corner. This accident was clearly Prost's fault and that is what upset Senna the most - he was disqualified by Jean-Marie Balestre (French like Prost) for getting a push restart and missing the chicane, which handed the championship to Prost. Senna was the true world champion that year if not for this incident.
