Simoncelli dies in Malaysia crash  UPDATE #3 In yet another display of grace and poise under extreme pressure, Marco Simoncelli's father has exonerated the marshals at Sepang who dropped his son while carrying the gravely injured Simoncelli to a trackside ambulance after his accident Sunday.

"I was thereabouts, but Marco was dead already," Paolo Simoncelli told Italian media. "I was 10 meters away, but Marco was already dead, it changed nothing.  I helped them. When they got back up and passed the stretcher over to my side of the guard rail, I took the stretcher to place it in the ambulance and held Marco's hand and called him, 'Ciao, Marco,' but he was gone already. There was nothing that could be done. Nothing would have changed in that case. As for the rest, maybe more (attention) is needed, but these people try to do their best, so it's useless ... but in our case Marco died on impact.  They say God summons the best to heaven. I don't know. I wish that's how it is."

10/25/11 New footage has now surfaced showing that the stretcher with the seriously injured motorcycle rider Marco Simoncelli was dropped by track marshals when they carried him from the track to the waiting ambulance behind the guardrail (which on itself is already very strange, to say the least ... !).

Note: Paolo Simoncelli, Marco's dad, arrives on his moped over the grass (see video and pic l5536244) at the scene just after they (the track-marshals) dropped his son from the stretcher. He then runs to the ambulance.  It must have been a terrible moment for Simoncelli sr. when he realized there wasn't anything that could be done to save his sons life.  Nonetheless the track-marshals shouldn't have touched Marco Simoncelli, even though he was (most likely) lying lifeless on the tarmac, until the medical staff arrived at the scene. Only they are supposed to start any form of treatment or allow the ambulance personnel to take the injured rider to the medical centre, definitely NOT the track-marshals !

We can't imagine otherwise then that the MotoGP organization has certain rules regarding such accidents, this should be checked.

Marco Simoncelli died of multiple injuries during this afternoon's Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang, MotoGP's Medical Director Michele Macchiagodena has confirmed. The Italian, who lost control of his bike on the second lap of the race, suffered 'a very serious trauma to the head', as well as neck and chest complications.

"I’m very sad to be here to report about the death of Marco Simoncelli, a friend," Macchiagodena commented. "Because of the crash he had during the race, in which he was hit by other riders, he suffered a very serious trauma to the head, to the neck and the chest. When our medical staff got to him he was unconscious.

"In the ambulance because there was a cardiac arrest they started CPR (cardiac pulmonary resuscitation). Immediately in the Medical Centre, with the help also of the Doctor of our staff at the Clinica Mobile and local Doctors, he was intubated and it was possible to take off some blood from the thorax. zzzz

"The CPR was continued for 45 minutes because we tried to help him for as long as we thought it was possible. Unfortunately it was not possible to help him and at 4:56pm local time (BST +7) we had to declare he was dead."

He was taken by ambulance to the circuit's medical centre, but at 4.56 it was announced he had succumbed to his injuries.
