Mayfield arrested for meth possession, gun arsenal seized UPDATE #4
Former NASCAR star Jeremy Mayfield in more trouble
A confidential source told authorities that Jeremy Mayfield was stealing to support his drug habit. A search warrant obtained by Eyewitness News says the source knew specific details about reported break-ins and thefts and said Mayfield was involved in it all and that all the stolen property would be found at his home.

On Monday, police seized hundreds of items -- mostly tools, metals and machinery -- worth $100,000. They also said they found 1.5 grams of meth and a meth pipe. The confidential source said he or she watched Mayfield purchase and consume meth “over 500 separate times,” saying Mayfield stole to support his drug habit.

On Thursday, Mayfield's lawyer denied the new allegations, saying: "Mr. Mayfield has no knowledge of either stolen property or methamphetamine being present on his property."

The attorney called the allegations "baseless" and the confidential source "unreliable."  Investigators had little reaction to the lawyer's claims. "He has a job to do," said Capt. Joel Fish of the Catwaba Co. Sheriff's Office. "He's representing Mr. Mayfield." WSOC

11/03/11 Mayfield's attorney released a statement Wednesday. "Mr. Mayfield has no knowledge of either stolen property or methamphetamine being present on his property and denies the accusation that he was in possession of methamphetamine or any other illegal drug and he denies any suggestion that he knowingly received or possessed stolen property."

11/02/11 Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield had enough firepower inside of his home to equip a small army ... law enforcement told TMZ. They spoke with Captain Joel Fish of the Catawba County Sheriff's Dept. who told them cops seized approximately 40 firearms during a search of Mayfield's North Carolina home last night. [Drug dealers usually keep an arsenal of guns].

Captain Fish said most of the guns were rifles and shotguns ... with a few handguns.

They were told the guns were seized so officials could determine if the weapons belong to Mayfield .... and if so, if they are properly registered.

As TMZ previously reported, cops had searched the home on a warrant after receiving a tip about stolen property inside Mayfield's pad.

Captain Fish said cops seized all sorts of items they believe to have been stolen -- including Red Bull Racing gear, commercial sound equipment and industrial machinery. Cops also claim they found 1.5 grams of methamphetamine inside the house.

Mayfield was arrested for felony possession of meth. He was released after posting $3,000 bond.

11/02/11 Authorities say former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield was arrested Tuesday night on drug charges. Mayfield was arrested in his home in the town of Catawba on possession of methamphetamine charges, according to the Catawba County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies had gone to Mayfield's home to execute a search warrant on a tip there were stolen goods in the house. During the search, deputies found the methamphetamine.

They also found items that may be stolen but deputies have not verified the items taken are in fact stolen property.

Mayfield has a scheduled court appearance Wednesday morning. His is out of jail on a $3,000 bond.

NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield was suspended indefinitely after failing a random drug test in May 2009.

The result stems from a test at Richmond International Raceway.
