Fords pace final practice for Daytona 500 Fords continued to dominate the speed charts Saturday at Daytona International Speedway during the final practice session for the Daytona 500.
This time it was David Gilliland’s turn to turn the fastest lap at 200.138 mph.
A Ford led six of seven practices since the cars arrived Feb. 18 to start working out for Sunday’s season-opening race.
Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth, Aric Almirola, Carl Edwards and Gilliland all have had turns atop the speed charts. The only non-Ford to win a practice session came Friday afternoon with Kyle Busch’s Toyota. That practice only had 23 cars and just four Fords.
Defending Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne was second-fastest at 200.129 mph, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was third, and Aric Almirola was fourth. Jeff Gordon was the fastest non-Ford in fifth place. He ran 198.321 mph.
Edwards, who will start on the pole Sunday, was 18th fastest, and outside pole sitter Biffle was 19th.
