Mercedes' Nico Rosberg turned the fastest lap the second practice session Friday for the Bahrain GP with a time of 1m32.816s, ahead of the Red Bulls of Mark Webber, and Sebastian Vettel with Lewis Hamilton 4th for McLaren.
Michael Schumacher was fifth in the other Mercedes but more than one second down on his teammate benchmark, with Jenson Button sixth in the 2nd McLaren.
Kobayashi ended the day in seventh spot for Sauber, ahead of the Ferrari of Fernando Alonso and the Lotus of Romain Grosjean. Sergio Perez rounded out the top 10 for Sauber.
