Italian Edo Mortara secures first career DTM pole at RedBullRing
Mortara puts Audi on pole
Team Rosberg Audi's Edo Mortara took his first pole position in the DTM at the Red Bull Ring ahead of HWA Mercedes driver and championship leader Gary Paffett (GB), with former champions Mattias Ekström (S) and Martin Tomczyk (D) on row two. Mortara's time of 1:26.171 was fast enough to secure pole position in the Q4 section of qualifying, though the fastest time throughout the session came from Paffett in Q2.
Martin Tomczyk was the top placed BMW driver in fourth for BMW Team RMG, with American team-mate Joey Hand starting in fifth place and Canada's Bruno Spengler's Schnitzer BMW in fifth.
For the first time in his DTM career, Edo Mortara (Audi) will be starting from pole position. In qualifying for the fourth round of the 2012 DTM season at the Red Bull Ring (Austria), the Italian claimed first place with a lap time of 1:26.171 minutes). Gary Paffett (Mercedes-Benz) will be lining up alongside him on the front row on Sunday. In the shoot-out qualifying, the Brit came within 0.121 seconds of Mortara’s fastest time. On Sunday, Mattias Ekström (Audi) and Martin Tomczyk (BMW) will be starting from the second row.
