Wolff weighs in on V6 change  Toto Wolff says Formula One has to follow through on the decision to swap to smaller 1.6 litre turbo-charged V6 engines in 2014.

Like F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, the Williams executive director admits he is not a fan of the smaller engines and would rather Formula One have opted to retain the current 2.4 litre V8 units.

"My own personal view is that it should have never happened," he told the latest James Allen on F1 podcast

"It was agreed to make a new engine without having properly analysed how much that engine would cost in terms of development and in terms of research and running it later on."

However, he concedes that now that millions have been spent by F1 engine manufacturers, the sport has to go ahead with the change.

"The engine manufacturers have started developing their business. All of them are pretty much on the way.

"They have spent millions and millions to develop it, some of the manufacturers don't have now even the benches anymore for the old engines.

"Renault made it conditional in staying in the sport that a new engine is in there, so my honest opinion is it's quite late to change that decision and I support our engine manufacturer's position which is in favour of the new engine." Planet F1
