Yet another technical problem compromised McLaren in Saturday’s qualifying session for the United States Grand Prix. This time the issue occurred for Jenson Button, who was left 12th on the grid when his car appeared to lose power towards the end of Q2.
“It was such a pity to be put out of the running so early,” the Englishman commented. “We had a throttle pedal problem – the engineers don’t yet know exactly what caused it – but I suffered a loss of drive. Fortunately I got one decently quick lap in during Q2, which was good enough for P12, otherwise I’d have been starting much further back.”
Button went on to express his concerns of a chaotic opening lap, with those who have qualified off the racing line all expected to endure slow starts.
