Kubica to test Mercedes DTM car
Mercedes has confirmed that Robert Kubica will test a DTM car in Spain this week, although new motorsport boss Toto Wolff says the Pole is still some way from being in a position where he could return to F1 machinery.

The former BMW Sauber and Renault man will hit the track at Valencia with the HWA team for the test as he continues his recovery from injuries sustained in an accident while rallying nearly two years ago.

The test is currently nothing more than an opportunity for Kubica to sample a more powerful car, with Wolff insisting it was still too early to say if the 28-year-old would ever be in a position to get back behind the wheel of a single-seater.

"We all obviously like Robert, he's a very special chap and what we want to do with Mercedes-Benz is give him a chance doing a proper test in a proper race car and seeing how he goes on and how he feels," Wolff told a media teleconference to discuss his new role.

"This is what we will be doing in the next days and I'm very glad that he's able to do that. He's very much looking forward to it and he's very excited. Let's see how it goes.

"If the DTM test goes well and we see that he is doing well in a proper race car with downforce, I think there are still some physical constraints to drive a single-seater with his elbow and arm. I think we all would love to see Robert doing well in a Formula One car in the future but that is definitely too early at this stage."
