Toyota recalls 1 million Corollas, Lexus IS sedans
Toyota announced a pair of a recalls involving more than 1 million vehicles in the U.S.

In the first, about 752,000 Corolla sedans and Corolla Matrix small crossovers from the 2003 and 2004 models years will be recalled for a faulty airbag control module.

In the other, an entirely separate recall, about 270,000 Lexus IS sedans from the 2006 to 2012 model years will be recalled to check for a loose nut on the front wipers.

Of the two, the Corolla and Matrix issue is clearly more involved. Toyota says the airbag control module for the in the Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles could have been manufactured with faulty circuit boards. If it malfunctions, it could cause a short, causing a buildup of heat or potentially causing the airbags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy when there hasn't been a crash.

In the case of the wiper blades on the Lexus IS, the loose nut could cause the wipers to fail if they encounter a heavy load that puts them under pressure, like the buildup of snow, Toyota says.

Owners of all the affected models will receive a letter telling them to bring their vehicles into dealers for repairs.
