KV Racing's Tony Kanaan has posted on Twitter that he injured his hand in a late-race accident at Long Beach on Sunday, but he still hopes to be fit and able to compete in the next race, his home event in Sao Paulo.
Kanaan was involved in a late clash with Oriol Servia on the penultimate lap of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on Sunday, which sent him into the tire wall. The force of the impact transmitted through the steering wheel hurt his right hand when he was unable to let go in time.
"With the hit my hand right hand got hurt," he said on Twitter after the accident. "Went to the medical center and we will need to do an X-ray. Hoping for the best."
After the X-ray, he revealed: "No broken bones. Contusion and torn ligaments. It's a full-on injury but it will heal on its own," adding a link to a photo of the X-ray.
