Hunter-Reay tops opening IndyCar practice in Toronto
Defending series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay turned the fastest lap to lead opening practice for the Honda Indy Toronto Friday morning in his Chevy. His lap of 1m00.6082s was enough to beat a late charge by Josef Newgarden by 0.07 seconds. James Jakes was second most of the session but did not put on new tires at the end of the session and fell to 8th. Ryan Briscoe was third for Panther Racing.
The session was interrupted by several off-track excursions, two by Dario Franchitti who ended up clipping the wall and breaking his right front wheel that resulted in a lengthy red flag. Will Power also nosed it gently into the tires at the end of the long backstraight but did no damage.
Rookie Tristan Vautier was 4th and Marco Andretti rounded out the top-5.
Will Power, Tony Kanaan, James Jakes, Dario Franchitti and Sebastien Bourdais rounded out the top 10.
