When asked, Mid-Ohio officials gave us a nice “We don’t give out attendance numbers.” Then he paused and said, “It’s a good crowd. We’re very happy.” And yes, it is a profitable weekend for the facility. Certainly not on par with the mega-crowds of old, but today’s crowd is very good, with the usual spectator areas full of fans. Best of all the weather is seasonably cool, with fluffy clouds and a cooling breeze, so last-minute sales won’t be deterred by either hot or rainy conditions.
Circuit officials tell us that they’re a confirmed “go” for next year as well. Given the attendance from Honda, Chevy and Firestone executives, it’s hard to not imagine this race happening for years to come. -- Tim Wohlford, reporting from Mid-Ohio!!
