NASCAR Kansas Sprint Cup TV rating (Update) UPDATE The final TV rating for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series 5-Hour Energy 400 Sprint Cup race from Kansas was a 3.5 with 5.755 million viewers tuned in.

05/12/14 Overnight ratings for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Kansas were the lowest in the young history of the race. The NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Kansas earned a 3.3 overnight rating on FOX Saturday night, down 15% from last year (3.9), down 11% from 2012 (3.7), and the lowest overnight in the four year history of the race. Until this year, the race took place on Sunday afternoon. Saturday's 3.3 overnight is tied as the third-lowest ever for Sprint Cup racing on FOX, matching the 2009 Phoenix race.

Auto racing as a sport will continue to deteriorate because the age of the average fan is increasing every year.  Today's young kids have little interest in racing.  The only solution is the AR1.com proposal, but the leaders of the various racing series think they know better.  The results speak for themselves.  Every NASCAR TV rating is down this year and IndyCar's are nothing to write home about.

The only way to get young kids interested in racing is if they can participate in it as a sport.  High schools and colleges certainly can afford to field go-kart teams.  Until racing is put on the same level as stick and ball sports on the collegiate level, the sport will continue to lose customers.  Wake up folks.  It will take all the manufacturers and all the racing series working together to get a nationwide program like that off the ground, which needs to include the NCAA's buy-in.
