DETROIT (June 7, 2000) - Two-time Grammy winner Lenny Kravitz has accepted an invitation from Championship Auto Racing Teams to serve as a celebrity voter on the overall selection committee that will choose the 2000 CART All-Star Team. Kravitz is the first celebrity chosen this season for the selection committee that is comprised of all current FedEx Championship Series drivers, a select group of motorsports media, three celebrity judges and series fans. The celebrity judges are chosen on their piqued interest in the FedEx Championship Series, and last season esteemed actors Tim Allen and Anthony Edwards and 1999 Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Robin Yount served in that capacity. Kravitz is riding the wave of his most recent album release, "5." The album, released in 1998, has gone double platinum and has been responsible for his two Grammy Awards. He captured a Grammy last year for the hit "Fly Away" and won another earlier this year for "Best Male Rock Vocal Performance" in his rendition of "American Woman." The aptly named album "5" is the fifth of his rising career. He debuted with "Let Love Rule" in 1989 and followed with "Momma Said" in '91, "Are You Gonna Go My Way" in '93 and Circus in '95. He is currently working on his sixth album. Last season, the voting committee chose the inaugural CART All-Star Team. The team consisted of FedEx Series champion Juan Montoya of Target/Chip Ganassi Racing; Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy of Team KOOL Green; Max Papis of Team Rahal and Michael Andretti of Newman/Haas Racing. Moore, who was fatally injured at California Speedway, was selected to the team as an honorary member. Montoya, the sensation who became only the second rookie in history to win the series crown, received the prestigious Mario Andretti Trophy as the leading vote-getter on the team.
