NASCAR Winston Cup drivers practiced for 90 minutes late Friday afternoon as the rain stopped and the track cleared. The practice session marked the first since it was announced by NASCAR last week that a one-inch restrictor plate would be required for all cars. Here are some post-practice comments on how the session went by selected Ford drivers. 

BILL ELLIOTT --94-- McDonald's Taurus -- HOW DID IT FEEL OUT THERE? "Not bad, you just don't have any power. I don't know what you do, I'm in the same boat as everybody else." HOW WERE YOU GETTING INTO THE CORNERS, DID YOU GO IN DEEPER THAN YOU USED TO? "Oh yeah. Your straightaway speed is down, so you're driving farther into the corner to make up for what you lost down the straightaway." IS IT THE SAME FRUSTRATION YOU HAVE AT DAYTONA AND TALLADEGA? "I don't really know until I get out there and run with somebody." WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS AS FAR AS THE RACE ON SUNDAY? "I think I'll be able to tell you more after happy hour when I get to run with some other cars. I don't know right now." 

DOUG YATES, Engine Builder -- 28, 88, 26, 66, 75 and 32 Tauruses -- "We started out with race runs trying to figure out gear ratios, so I think we're probably a little better than the board shows right now. We'll come in in the morning and get things looked over. Man, I don't know. You hear a lot of drivers on the radio saying, 'Man, this thing has no power' and it's terrible. It's gonna be an interesting deal." IS THERE CONCERN BECAUSE ALL SIX CARS THAT RUN YATES MOTORS WERE DOWN ON THE SPEED CHART? "Oh yeah. When all of your cars are running good you feel good, but when they're all running bad you know something too. We've got to re-group tonight and see what we've got. We'll just have to go work and see what we can find." 

RUSTY WALLACE --2-- Miller Lite Taurus -- HOW DID THINGS GO? "I think things went OK for what we've got to work with. It's a whole different animal, although my setup is hardly any different. My gear ratios are all different, but my setup is pretty good and we're pretty happy. We're 10th-quick and we had a whole lot of time on our tires, so we're gonna make a couple little changes -- one more little gear change, a left-front shock change and put new tires on and do a bonzai tomorrow morning. That'll probably be sufficient for what we're doing." CAN YOU FEEL A BIG DIFFERENCE AS FAR AS SPEED GOES? "Well, I feel like I'm going in the corner a lot faster, but I'm coming off the corner a lot slower. You're driving it in so deep, so. You're definitely running faster in the corner. I'm driving about four or five car lengths deeper into the corner. I know that's not what they want to hear, but that's what's happening."
