Lola again claims odds are with their cars
January 29, 2001

The message from Lola Cars International for the 2001 CART Championship season is that Lola Champ cars have a better statistical chance of winning races (based on the 2000 CART Championship statistics).

For the majority of the 2000 season, Lola had six cars competing, compared to Reynard's 17. Lola won seven of the 20 races. That equates to a win possibility for each Lola driver of 5.8% per race - a win ratio almost double that of Lola's closest competitor.

Lola won 35% of the 2000 races, claimed 35% of the pole positions with, on average, 24% of the cars on the grid.

Despite being outnumbered on the track, Lola dominated the oval races, leading 57% of all laps (1066 out of 1870) and taking five wins (from a possible nine) including victories in both 500 milers.

Lola Cars led 44% of the total number of race laps (1249 out of 2830), as well as winning the Toronto and Houston street races.

Daniel Partel, President of Lola Cars International Inc., stated, "While the statistics speak for themselves, it is difficult to win the CART Championship with only 24% of the cars. Our objective has to be to increase the number of Lola's on the grid to position ourselves as legitimate contenders for the constructors' title.

"It was an impressive performance in 2000 considering the amount of cars we had out on the track. If we'd had more cars out there, I'm sure the championship story would have been quite different.

"Lola has five more cars running in 2001, Team Rahal plus the new teams Sigma, and Arciero-Brooke, joining Target Chip Ganassi, Newman/Haas, Herdez-Bettenhausen, and Coyne for an eleven car assault on the constructors' title."

Lola poised for 100th victory in 2001. "Lola is on the verge of making CART history with 97 CART wins to date," continues Partel. "We expect to celebrate our 100th victory this coming season, and expect to be the first constructor to do so."

The 2001 CART series gets underway with the season-opening Monterrey Grand Prix in Monterrey, Mexico, on Sunday 11 March.
