2002 Indy 500 on-track schedule

April 30, 2002

SCHEDULE (all times local):

(Sunday, May 5)

Indianapolis Star Opening Day - Children 12 and younger are free. The first 3,000 children will receive a checkered flag courtesy of the Indianapolis Star.
9 a.m.: Gates open to public
11 a.m.-noon: Autograph session with Indy Racing drivers in the Bombardier Pagoda Plaza
12:30 p.m.: Opening ceremonies
1:15-6 p.m.: Indy Racing League practice
Admission: $5 (age 13 and older). Two-for-one coupons can be found in the Indianapolis Star May 2-5 or at www.indystar.com.

(Monday, May 6 - Friday, May 10)

9 a.m.: Gates open to public (except May 10, gates open 8 a.m.)
11 a.m.-6 p.m.: Indy Racing League practice
Admission: $5 (ages 5 and younger free)

(Saturday, May 11, MBNA Pole qualifying)

7 a.m.: Gates open to public
8-10 a.m.: Indy Racing League practice
11 a.m.-6 p.m.: MBNA Pole Qualifications
6 p.m.: MBNA Pole winner ceremony
Admission: $10 (ages 5 and younger free)
First 5,000 fans receive a free A.J. Foyt bobblehead doll courtesy of Pepsi

(Sunday, May 12, Marsh Mother's Day, Second Day Qualifying)

8 a.m.: Gates open to public
10-11:15 a.m.: Indy Racing League practice
10 a.m.-2 p.m.: Mother's Day Brunch with Lyn St. James (Marsh Plaza Chalets, open to public)
Noon-6 p.m.: Indy Racing League qualifications
Admission: $10 (ages 5 and younger free)

(Monday, May 13 - Tuesday, May 14)

No track activity

(Wednesday, May 15 - Friday, May 17)

9 a.m.: Gates open to public
11 a.m.-6 p.m.: Indy Racing League practice
Admission: $5 (ages 5 and younger free)

(Saturday, May 18, Pepsi Fun Day)

8 a.m.: Gates open to public
10:30 a.m.: Motocross demonstration in the infield
11 a.m.-6 p.m.: Indy Racing League practice
Noon-1 p.m.: Autograph session with motocross riders in the Bombardier Pagoda Plaza
2:30 p.m.: Motocross demonstration in the infield
4:30 p.m.: Motocross demonstration in the infield
Admission: $5 (ages 5 and younger free)

(Sunday, May 19, Bump Day/Armed Forces Day)

8 a.m.: Gates open to public
10-11:15 a.m.: Indy Racing League practice
11:15 a.m.: Armed Forces Day ceremony
Noon-6 p.m.: Indy Racing League qualifications

3-6 p.m.: Indy Racing driver autograph session in garage area

(Thursday, May 23, Coors Carb Day)

8 a.m.: Gates open to public
11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Final Indy Racing League practice
1:30-3 p.m.: Coors Pit Stop Challenge
3:30 p.m.: Coors Concert featuring Better Than Ezra and Nine Days in the Bombardier Pagoda Plaza
