Schumacher makes NHRA history at zMax Dragway

Tony Schumacher made history on Sunday as the National Hot Rod Association’s Top Fuel point leader notched his 12th victory of the year, beating out Antron Brown to win his 53rd national event in the inaugural Carolina Nationals at zMax Dragway in Concord, N.C.  Schumacher’s victory pushed the defending Top Fuel champion past Joe Amato as the winningest Top Fuel driver in series history.
Dixon, Hawley Top zMax Qualifying; Force Misses Show

Every driver in the National Hot Rod Association wants to make it into the show on Sunday, but when the series' newest drag strip names their main grandstand after you, not making the field would be devastating.  That is exactly what John Force is facing this weekend at the inaugural Carolina Nationals at zMax Dragway in Concord, N.C., as the 14-time NHRA Funny Car Champion failed to qualify for the finals for the second week in a row.

Larry Dixon tops first day at zMax

Larry Dixon capped off the first day of qualifying at the Inaugural NHRA Carolinas Nationals with a booming 3.846 at 310.20 to claim the provisional No. 1 qualifying position in Top Fuel. The other provisional No. 1 qualifiers at the first race in the six-race in the NHRA Playoff, the Countdown to 1, were Frank Hawley (Funny Car), Kurt Johnson (Pro Stock) and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle).
zMAX Dragway Kicks Off New Era with NHRA Nationals

Not only is zMAX Dragway @ Concord the nation's newest racing venue, it's a creation that the pioneers of Carolinas drag racing could never have imagined when their sport began more than half a century ago. The Sept. 11-14 NHRA Nationals at zMAX Dragway is part of that once-inconceivable picture.
NHRA releases initial findings from Kalitta crash

While still conducting its investigation into the details of last week's tragic accident that took the life of driver Scott Kalitta, NHRA announced today some of its initial findings and subsequent steps being taken to continue its efforts to make the sport safer. It has been determined that a tragic series of events took place that fateful afternoon.  An engine explosion near the end of the run resulted in separating most of the car's body from the chassis.
