Langdon, Hagan, Jones, Krawiec Winners at Pomona

Shawn Langdon finished off his 2013 NHRA Top Fuel season the same way he started it, celebrating in the winner’s circle at Pomona - only this time he walked away more than just the event-winner trophy.  Langdon beat out Doug Kalitta in the final round of Sunday’s 49th Annual Auto Club Nationals to claim his seventh win of the season, capping off his season just one day after clinching his first career Top Fuel title in the final event.
Force Clinches 16th NHRA Funny Car Title

John Force outran his daughter Courtney in the final round and claimed an NHRA-record 16th world championship in Funny Car on Sunday at the NHRA Toyota Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle), Antron Brown (Top Fuel) and Shane Gray (Pro Stock) also were winners at the fifth of six playoff races in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship.

15-time Funny Car champion John Force kept up his winning momentum with his 137th-career NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series victory on Sunday to secure the top spot in the points standings as the Countdown to the Championship entered the home stretch at the 29th annual Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, PA. Shawn Langdon took the victory in the Top Fuel division to stay atop the points standings, while Jeg Coughlin picked up a much-needed win to take over the points lead in Pro Stock
Lucas, Force, Line, Ray Lead Reading Qualifying

Morgan Lucas (Top Fuel), John Force (Funny Car), Jason Line (Pro Stock) and Michael Ray (Pro Stock Motorcycle) took the top qualifier spots in Saturday’s final rounds of qualifying for Sunday’s 29th annual Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, PA.

John Force raced to his 136th career victory and moved into position to earn a 16th Funny Car world championship title Sunday at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis. Antron Brown (Top Fuel), Erica Enders-Stevens (Pro Stock) and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also were winners at the 21st race of the season and third of six playoff events in the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship.

Doug Kalitta ended a 71-race winless drought by racing to the Top Fuel victory Sunday at the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex near Dallas. Cruz Pedregon (Funny Car), Jason Line (Pro Stock), and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also were winners at the second of six events in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship. Kalitta claimed his first victory of the season and first since 2010 in Top Fuel and moved into a tie for the NHRA Mello Yello Series points lead with the driver he beat in the final round, Shawn Langdon.

NHRA Funny Car driver Robert Hight secured his second No. 1 qualifying position of the season and 45th of his career on Saturday with a track-record performance, and he will try for his third straight victory of the season on Sunday at the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex.

Shawn Langdon made it two in row for the weekend as the NHRA Mellow Yellow Drag Racing Series Top Fuel points leader scored his first career US Nationals victory with a win over Steve Torrence at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. Robert Hight (Funny Car), Mike Edwards (Pro Stock) and John Hall (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also went to the winners circle in the 59th running of the US Nationals – the final regular-season event before the Countdown to the Champion begins.

Matt Hagan turned in a record-breaking run to take the provisional pole in the Funny Car division on Saturday as the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series wrapped up the second round of qualifying for Monday’s 59th annual U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. Brittany Force and Allen Johnson continued to hold the top spot in Top Fuel and Pro Stock, respectively, while Hector Arana moved atop the ladder in Pro Stock Motorcycle.

Ron Capps earned his third Funny Car win of the season by racing to the victory Sunday at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway over teammate and points leader Matt Hagan. Spencer Massey (Top Fuel) and Mike Edwards (Pro Stock) were also winners in their respective categories at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event in Brainerd.
Millican, Beckman, Nobile Fastest at Brainerd

Defending Funny Car world champion Jack Beckman raced to his second consecutive No. 1 qualifying position at Brainerd International Raceway Saturday during the final day of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals.  Clay Millican (Top Fuel) and Vincent Nobile (Pro Stock) will also lead their categories when eliminations begin Sunday at 11 a.m. for the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event in Brainerd.

NHRA Funny Car driver Matt Hagan extended his points lead on Sunday and led a trio of first-time Seattle champions, winning for the fourth time in 2013 with a victory against Bob Tasca III at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals presented by Super Start Batteries at Pacific Raceways. Morgan Lucas (Top Fuel) and Vincent Nobile (Pro Stock) also were winners of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event, the 16th of 24 in the 2013 season.

Coming off his class-best fourth win of the season last weekend, NHRA Top Fuel points leader Shawn Langdon continued his remarkable 2013 campaign by shattering the track E.T. record to earn the No. 1 qualifier position on Saturday at the 26th annual O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals presented by Super Start Batteries at Pacific Raceways near Seattle.

John Force received a perfect Father’s Day gift on Sunday, ending a 31-race winless streak with a victory in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tenn. The seemingly ageless 15-time Funny Car champion picked up his fourth Bristol victory and 135th-career NHRA victory with a win over long-time rival Cruz Pedregon in the final to secure his first win since the 2012 season-opening event at Pomona.

Shawn Langdon came home with his second straight victory in Top Fuel, while Michael Ray collected his first win of the season as the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series wrapped up Sunday’s eliminations at the 44th Annual Toyota NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Mike Edwards completed a weekend sweep in Pro Stock, taking the win and top qualifier honors, as did Matt Hagan, who did the same in the Funny Car division.
Millican, Hagan, Edwards, Johnson Top Quals at E-town

Clay Millican (Top Fuel), Matt Hagan (Funny Car), Mike Edwards (Pro Stock) and Steve Johnson (Pro Stock Motorcycle) topped Saturday’s final qualifying sessions for Sunday’s Toyota NHRA Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. Saturday’s warm weather pushed track temperatures above 130 degrees, leading to slick track conditions and slower speeds from Friday’s sessions, leaving much of the top-five qualifiers in each of the four divisions largely unchanged after Saturday’s two afternoon sessions.
Langdon, Gray, Coughlin Winners in Kansas Nationals

Johnny Gray raced to his third victory of the season Sunday and moved back into the Funny Car points lead at the 25th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals. Shawn Langdon (Top Fuel) and Jeg Coughlin (Pro Stock) also were winners in their respective categories at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event. All three winners were presented special-edition silver Wally trophies in honor of the event’s 25th anniversary.

Brown, Gray, Edwards Win Rain-Delayed Southern Nats

Antron Brown, Johnny Gray and Mike Edwards went to the Winner’s Circle – albeit a week late – in Saturday’s 33rd -annual NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway. Following a one-week delay for rain - and another short rain delay during Saturday’s eliminations – Brown emerged victorious over Brandon Bernstein for his second victory of the season, posting a 3.801 at 321.25 mph.
Vandergriff, Pedregon, Line, Arana Jr. win in Houston

Cruz Pedregon became the first two-time winner in the Funny Car category in 2013 by racing to the victory Sunday at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA SpringNationals at Royal Purple Raceway. Bob Vandergriff Jr. (Top Fuel), Jason Line (Pro Stock) and Hector Arana Jr. (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also were winners at the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event near Houston.

Spencer Massey returned to Victory Lane in the Four-Wide Nationals for the second straight year, while Matt Hagan and Mike Edwards celebrated their first victories of the season in Sunday’s fourth annual Dollar General NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway. Hector Arana, Jr. scored his second-straight win in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class, making their first appearance in the Four-Wide Nationals since 2010.
Edwards breaks Record in zMax Qualifying

Mike Edwards recorded the fastest pass in Pro Stock history and scored his fifth-straight no.1 qualifier in Saturday’s qualifying sessions for Sunday’s fourth annual Dollar General NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway. Chad Head picked up his first career no. 1 qualifier to lead the Funny Car division, while Shawn Landon (Top Fuel) and Hector Arana, Jr. (Pro Stock Motorcycle) both notched their first top qualifiers of the season.

Doug Kalitta, Cruz Pedregon, Mike Edwards and Matt Smith raced to no. 1 qualifier positions in Saturday’s final rounds of qualifying for Sunday’s 44th Annual Gatornationals NHRA Mellow Yellow Drag Racing Series event at Gainesville. Kalitta backed up his low ET from Friday’s second round with a pass of 3.779 seconds at 326.32 mph in the final run of the session to knock off Antron Brown and re-claim the top spot for his second straight no. 1 qualifier of the season and the 33rd of his career.
