With 30 cities wanting an F1 race, Bratches (L) can easily tell Silverstone to go pound sand

One day after Silverstone's owners announced they will terminate their British Grand Prix contract, Formula One's new leadership said Wednesday they had been inundated with interest from around 30 places looking to stage races.

Liberty Media has spent its first six months in charge of F1 trying to exploit the commercial opportunities it believes were not being seized on toward the end of Bernie Ecclestone's control of the motorsport series.

"Since I've been here, probably 30 countries, municipalities, principalities have reached out to me about interest in bringing Formula One to their cities, their countries," Sean Bratches, F1's managing director for commercial operations, told The Associated Press. "So we are in a unique spot. We have an abundance of opportunities and we are going to have to figure out where we go and again at the center of that decision is, 'What is the best thing for our fans?'"

Jay Frye 'dreaming' of new teams
The prospect of four or five new teams joining the Verizon IndyCar Series has IndyCar's president of competition and operations, Jay Frye, encouraged when it comes to car counts beginning in 2018 writes Bruce Martin of AutoWeek.

If Team Penske shrinks from four full-time entries to three with the prospect of Helio Castroneves' leaving the series as a full-time competitor to drive in the Indianapolis 500 and a Team Penske entry in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Series, that would be one fewer driver in the field. But Frye told Autoweek that such teams as Juncos, Harding Racing, Steinbrenner Racing, Carlin Motorsports and even McLaren could actually increase the size of the fields in future seasons.

That is despite the fact the current regulations governing the controversial 'power unit' rules are technically set to run until the end of 2020.

It is believed the new engine will still be a 1.6 liter V6, but with two instead of one turbo and a single KERS to replace the current, complex and quiet 'hybrid' systems.

Rumor has it that Enzo Ferrari will roll over in his grave soon. Ferrari would never have placed his name on a high-riding 4x4, but today there are too many people who want a prancing horse on their next SUV.

While the news isn’t official, a Ferrari SUV won’t be without precedent. Since 2011, Ferrari has sold the FF (renamed GTC4Lusso), an all-wheel drive supercar with a hatchback and fold-down seats. Car Magazine says the new SUV would replace that model in 2020.

The company started holding meetings to warn employees that EVS are coming and here to stay and they announced production expansion for their upcoming electric vehicles.

Earlier this year, BMW confirmed a few new electric vehicles to come to production. It revealed plans to build the first fully electric MINI in 2019 and a fully electric BMW X3 in 2020 at its Leipzig plant, while the upcoming “fully electric BMW iNEXT” should follow in 2021.

It left a giant 6-year gap between the release of its first all-electric vehicle, the BMW i3, and its next all-electric vehicle.

Rahal says IndyCar turned the Kohler GP into a severe econo run
It's not rocket science. Really it isn't, but someone in IndyCar appears to have flunked simple arithmetic in grade school and as a result they have turned the Kohler GP into a fuel economy run.

In press conferences Friday at Road America drivers say that IndyCar should have extended the Kohler Grand Prix at Road America by 10 rather than five laps.

The length of the track, 4.014 miles, and IndyCars make a certain MPG at full throttle, somewhere around 3.0. A three stop race is planned as always, so now drivers need to get two more laps on a tank of fuel in each stint to still make it on 3 stops.
