NASCAR aims to destroy IndyCar's success at Gateway
If a Monster Energy Cup race comes to Gateway, stick a fork in the IndyCar race. It's done.
If a Monster Energy Cup race comes to Gateway, stick a fork in the IndyCar race. It's done.
IndyCar's #1 enemy is NASCAR, make no mistake about it.

Whatever TV network IndyCar goes to, NASCAR follows and buries it.

Whenever IndyCar has any success on an oval track, NASCAR moves in and the IndyCar race withers on the vine. Most die because the market cannot support both. You can only sell so many race tickets in a given market.

Mattia Binotto has been key to Ferrari's resurgence in recent years - he came from the engine side of the business. Many key employees at Mercedes came from Ferrari, including Aldo Costa - the designer that can't be beaten
(GMM) Mattia Binotto could be eyeing the exit door at Maranello.

Recently, amid Ferrari's mysterious 2018 championship slump, rumors of an internal conflict between team boss Maurizio Arrivabene and Binotto, the technical boss, raged.

But it then emerged that Arrivabene has secured a new contract through 2021.

"Ferrari's competitors have quickly reacted and Mercedes and Renault have asked questions of Mattia Binotto," F1 journalist Luis Vasconcelos told the Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat.

Could Gutierrez bring a larger check than Sergey Sirokin, Robert Kubica and Esteban Ocon?
Could Gutierrez bring a larger check than Sergey Sirotkin, Robert Kubica and Esteban Ocon?
Former Sauber and Haas driver Esteban Gutierrez revealed in Mexico that he reckons he has a chance of securing an F1 drive for 2019.

With Williams the only available opportunity remaining on the grid - we'll discard Toro Rosso which has set it sights on Alexander Albon - it's safe to assume that the Mexican is targeting a return to Grand Prix racing with the Grove-based outfit.

Gutierrez has been conducting simulator work for Mercedes this season, but could he beat Sergey Sirotkin, Robert Kubica and Esteban Ocon to a Williams drive?

Wickens to race IndyCar again?
Robert Wickens
Robert Wickens
By now, you've probably heard today's announcement from IndyCar driver Robert Wickens that he is paralyzed from the waist down following a horrific crash at Pocono Raceway in August. AR1 is already hearing that consideration is being given to Wickens competing in IndyCar as a paraplegic.

Of course, the technology for hand-driven cars exists, as we have seen with Alex Zanardi, Sam Schmidt and Michael Johnson in the Mazda Road to Indy. Furthermore, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports sponsor Arrow would likely have some interest in such a project.

Tony Stewart has too much to lose to risk his life, or permanent paralysis because of IndyCar's lethal catch fence problem
Tony Stewart has too much to lose to risk his life, or permanent paralysis because of IndyCar's lethal catch fence problem

UPDATE This rumor is downgraded to 'false' today. As AR1.com predicted, until IndyCar fixes the lethal catch fence problem, top drivers around the world are going to reject IndyCar. AR1.com proposed a Lexan or polycarbonate solution to the catch fencing that will solve the problem, IndyCar has taken no action. Apparently not enough drivers have been killed yet for them to take action

Tony Stewart is reconsidering a return to the Indianapolis 500 in part because of injuries Robert Wickens suffered in an IndyCar crash at Pocono.

"After Robert Wickens got hurt, I don't know how excited I am about it anymore," Stewart told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Thursday. "You watch Robert get hurt and ask yourself if it's really worth it."

Formula E to be forced to change name
'Agag
Agag is going to have to write a large check to "The Green Effort" to get full rights to the Formula E name
A bizarre court case in Europe could force Formula E, the electric-powered auto racing series, to pull the plug on its own name after it came to light that a British rival had registered a trademark to it writes Christian Sylt of Forbes.

The dispute began revving up in 2016 but stayed out of the spotlight as it was being handled internally by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). As there is still gridlock after two years the European Court of Justice has been asked to make a decision on it which led to the filing of legal papers revealed yesterday by British newspaper the Sunday Express.

Alonso purchases IndyCar TV rights in Spain (Update)
Is there still any doubt where Alonso will be racing in 2019?
Alonso said he will explore buying the Spanish IndyCar TV rights even though he himself has rejected IndyCar

UPDATE We now know that Fernando Alonso will not race in IndyCar in 2019 - he made that clear. In fact he won't be racing there in 2020 either.

He said the real objective for 2019 is to take things slower.

"I need to rest and recover my motivation, which is why I do not want to do a full Indycar season. It would be like continuing in F1, where in 2020 I could return," said the two-time champion.

Alonso also commented on speculation that he has acquired the Spanish television rights to Indycar.

What engine will Andretti run for McLaren and Alonso? (9th Update)
Honda appears back in play for McLaren in IndyCar
A McLaren team was a wet dream for IndyCar that was never going to happen

UPDATE This rumor is downgraded to 'false' today as we predicted. Zak Brown has confirmed in Austin that McLaren will not compete full-time in IndyCar next year. How could they when their F1 team is performing so badly.

We now expect Michael Andretti to announce Fernando Alonso will contest the Indianapolis 500 again as a one-off with his main team.

09/23/18  McLaren F1 chief Zak Brown is keen to set up an Indycar program and now, the one big hurdle he had of securing Honda power appears to be overcome, a decision regarding a Stateside partnership between the two organisations is on the cards.

This comes as a surprise in the wake of the bad blood spilt after their failed partnership in Formula 1 and more recently their star driver Fernando Alonso’s affiliation with Toyota through his WEC program.

When pressed further on his 2019 plans, Alonso continued: “Let’s see. As I’ve said many times, the Indy 500 is still very attractive as it was last year. After winning Le Mans this year, it’s even more attractive.”

VW is going all-electric big time, while Ford is out to lunch with EVs. A merger with VW would save Ford from itself.

Like many an automotive manufacturer, Ford Motor Co. has been forming alliances with erstwhile rivals such as General Motors in a bid to reduce development costs and speed new products to market. But one potential partnership has been generating widespread buzz in industry circles, observers wondering just how far Ford might take things with German giant Volkswagen AG.

The two companies inked an MoU, or memorandum of understanding, announcing they will explore a number of possible projects, including the joint development and production of commercial vehicles.

But industry analysts are now suggesting such a partnership could reach far beyond the commercial vehicle market, some even wondering whether there could be full-fledged merger or, at the least, an equity swap, in their future.
