Indy Lights tire situationUPDATE According to a report in Tire Business, a sister publication to Autoweek, Bridgestone Americas has performed an about-face and will continue to supply tires and sponsorship to the Firestone Indy Lights series in 2012.
Bridgestone said last March that it would no longer support Indy Lights once the 2011 season concluded, even though it renewed its deal to provide rubber to the Izod IndyCar Series through 2013.
According to Tire Business, terms of the new Indy Lights deal, which for now covers only the 2012 season, were not disclosed. Sources told Tire Business that Bridgestone and IndyCar are negotiating to extend the contract beyond this season.
03/11/11 Rumor has it that Hoosier Tire may become the supplier for the Indy Lights series, replacing Firestone and of course you have read the rumors about IndyCar owners willing to pay Firestone more money for their tires if they stay. Announcements could come as early as today or tomorrow.
