Edwards considering leaving Roush? UPDATE #2 Sprint All-Star Race winner, #99-Carl Edwards, contract expires at the end of the season. After Saturday's victory, both the driver and his boss said little about where talks stand for 2012 and beyond.

"All I'll say about that is we're running really well right now and it's because of Jack Roush and Ford and all these people's hard work, and those talks are going on behind closed doors," said Edwards. "We'll hopefully get something done, but right now we're running well and that is fun and what I'm trying to do is focus on that because we have a championship to win this year. That's the number one goal."

"We're trying to maintain the focus on keeping our season together," said Roush Fenway Racing founder and co-owner Jack Roush. "We want to put ourselves in the best situation we can to make a championship run, to be in the top 10 and then to make a championship run in the closing months of the year. It's going on behind closed doors. With some accuracy I say I really don't do the money and I try to stay out of the money part of it, but I will have to pay attention to this deal as it gets closer, but it's not something we're gonna debate or discuss in the public. It's not a media issue, it's a private business issue that's ongoing." SPEED

Carl Edwards
Carl Edwards isn't in a hurry to negotiate a new contract with Roush Fenway Racing or any other Sprint Cup organization. You can't blame him. Edwards is leading the Cup standings after Sunday's sixth-place finish at Auto Club Speedway. He's won three of the past seven races dating back to last season, and with a little luck could have won six. "The biggest thing I don't want to do is mess anything up by focusing too much on that," Edwards said. "We all work very hard to be in the exact position we are in right now. I don't want to mess that up by focusing on the contract right now. I am leaving it alone for right now," Edwards said. "We will just see what happens." As long as Edwards continues on this run he will maintain a huge bargaining edge. He's by far the most sought-after free agent, and in tough economic times when most drivers with new deals are taking huge cuts he is in position to perhaps maintain. ESPN.com

03/29/11 As rumors have started to float around about where Carl Edwards could end up for 2012 and beyond. As Edwards begins to explore his options, let’s take a look at where he could realistically end up.  Outside of the RFR/Richard Petty Motorsports bubble, Hendrick and RCR are out, because they have signed drivers and no room to expand.  Of the upper tier teams, that leaves the likes of Penske Racing, Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing, Red Bull Racing, Michael Waltrip Racing, and Stewart-Haas Racing.  All either have drivers leaving, the ability to expand, or both.
