Addington on way out at Penske?UPDATE Kurt Busch crew chief Steve Addington said he is happy at Penske Racing and would not comment Friday on rumors and reports that he plans to leave the team after this season.
Busch, in his second season with Addington as crew chief, is currently sixth in the Sprint Cup standings, just 16 points behind points leader Carl Edwards.
With Stewart-Haas Racing looking for competition director and a crew chief for Danica Patrick and Michael Waltrip Racing searching for a crew chief for Clint Bowyer next year, the garage has been rampant with speculation about which crew chiefs may switch teams next season.
The Charlotte Observer reported that Addington is not expected to return to Penske and Busch’s No. 22 team.
“I have no comment on the story that’s written off pure rumors and speculation that has no leg to stand on,” Addington said prior to Bank of America 500 practice at Charlotte Motor Speedway. “So that’s all I can say. We’re here to concentrate on wining the Bank of America 500 and this championship.
“I don’t know where this is coming from. That’s all I can say.”
10/14/11 It appears Kurt Busch's #22 Penske Racing team is in store for a shakeup in the offseason. Steve Addington, Busch's crew chief since the start of the 2010 Sprint Cup season, is not expected to return to the team in 2012. Asked if he would comment on Addington's status with Penske beyond the 2011 season, organization spokesman Jonathan Gibson said, "We make it a practice to not comment on rumors and speculation. Our team's focus is on winning this weekend's race and, ultimately, the championship." Charlotte Observer
