Why F1 race in Cape Town won’t be called ’South’ African GP A reader asks, Dear AutoRacing1.com, How come the rumored F1 race in Cape Town won't be called the South African GP, clearly Cape Town is in South Africa? Jim Dolan, Las Vegas, NV. Dear Jim, According to our sources. the group trying to put a Champ Car race together in Cape Town now owns the rights to 'South' Africa GP so the F1 group had to go with just African GP. Now it will be interesting to see who gets to Cape Town first, F1 in 2009 or Champ Car. We doubt the government would get involved with both. Mark C.
