IMSA to drop Atlantic series sanctioningUPDATE #2 It looks like things are still moving in the Atlantic series. I guess we will hold our breath and see how many teams they can field. It looks pretty shaky to us, but we hope this legendary feeder series will continue as an open wheel fixture in the sport. It would be really sad to see it fade away. Here is a recent article on their postponement of their official test session
01/16/10 We are dropping this rumor down to 'speculation.' IMSA will sanction the series in 2010.......if they have a series. While Star Mazda will have over 20 cars at the IMSA support test, the Atlantic Series will have none. Last year the Atlantic grid size was down to 10 or less cars at some races and if rumors are true that the top 2 teams are moving to Indy Lights, there comes a point whereby the grid size is too small to be considered a viable series.
01/15/10 The Atlantic Series will not be attending the IMSA Support Series Sebring Winter Test. We are hearing that Atlantics will not be sanctioned by IMSA anymore. Interestingly, we internally were talking about this, with all of the rumors about not paying out prize money recently, we wondered if this would happen, and then heard the very same thing from an outside source. IMSA is a professional organization, and we doubt they would be associated with the things that we have heard coming out of the Atlantics camp.
