09/07/10 Strong rumors say, and as expected, the Izod Indy Car Series will return to the Milwaukee Mile in 2011. A news conference is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 10 at the historic track in Brookfield, Wis., where IndyCar Series officials will announce next year’s full-season schedule.
We expect IndyCar to confirm at least 16 races for now with a 17th to follow. A meeting later this month in Las Vegas will determine whether there will be a race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. If not they will end the season at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.
09/04/10 Bruton Smith expects the Izod IndyCar Series to end its 2011 season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which he owns. “I'm anxiously anticipating that, and I certainly think it will happen,” Smith said of an IndyCar/LVMS pairing.
IndyCar officials will announce next year's schedule on Friday, likely in Indianapolis. There will be 16 races announced initially, with either Las Vegas or Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., announced at a later date.
IndyCar's first choice is to end the season at Las Vegas, but that depends on sponsorship dollars coming in from local groups. If a deal can't be struck, CEO Randy Bernard will turn his attention to Fontana. AutoWeek
