F2 champ Soucek eyes IndyCar
12/10/10 2009 Formula 2 Champion and, for a period, Virgin Racing reserve driver Andy Soucek is set on exploring racing options in the USA as he feels that, without big sponsorship, getting a seat in F1 for 2011 will be very difficult.
Speaking in Dubai where he is guest driving for Seychelles Racing in the Motorcity 24 Hours karting race the Spaniard said, “It is very difficult to find options in F1 as most teams require big money for a drive or a large amount of sponsorship. It is becoming more and more like this as money is tight for the teams. I am working on options in IndyCars for 2011.”
Soucek was enjoying himself in the leisure karting 24 hours race in Dubai featuring a mix of top kart drivers and amateur racers in an event that has been run for the 21st since its inception in 2004. He said, “I enjoy competing and it is good to end the year doing some racing, even with these karts it is great to be out there. You have to be very precise and there are some good drivers in the field. Very competitive and the guy [Alban] I was battling with in the first stint made no mistakes. I am having fun.”
Soucek did the first stint for Seychelles Racing and was in a three-way battle for the lead with ace French karter Alban Varutti and Emirati teenager Mohammed Al Mutawaa at the Dubai Kartdrome, part of the Dubai Autodrome and Motorcity complex.
