Chevrolet Dominates again, will Honda surrender?

The Verizon IndyCar Series season so far has been dominated by Chevrolet power. The new Chevy aero kits seem to have an advantage out of the gates as they've dominated the speed charts in almost every practice session this season and also all three qualifying sessions throughout the year so far. At St. Pete, they took home the top six spots in the finishing order and had seven cars inside the top 10 when the checkered flag few on the season opener.

Last week in New Orleans, a Honda driver won, but Chevy had the most dominating cars all weekend though. If not for rainy conditions and several cautions, it would have been a Chevy dominated top 10 for a second straight race.

The same dominance carried over this weekend on the streets of Long Beach as Chevy was downright unstoppable. The manufacturer led almost every lap on the 1.968-mile street course today as they swept the top seven spots in the finishing order for the 41st annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

That helps big time in the manufacturer standings as Chevy had a huge hole to come out of leaving St. Pete. Despite the strong weekend, they were penalized heavily for engine changes on their teams.

But, they’ve since looked past that as Scott Dixon took home the win with Helio Castroneves, Juan Pablo Montoya, Simon Pagenaud, Tony Kanaan, Sebastien Bourdais and Josef Newgarden taking home the top seven spots on Sunday, all with Chevy power.

Our understanding is that Honda has yet to sign a contract to be in the series after 2015. Is the Honda Indy program under review by Honda given the results? Speculation says that if Honda has a bad Indy 500 they are done. Their focus has been on the oval aero kit because winning the Indy 500 is more important to them than winning the championship. If Chevy beats their pants at Indy you can bet a lot of executives at Honda are going to be asking some real hard questions.

If IndyCar is smart, they will allow Honda to make changes to equalize the performance of the aero kits.
