“It's not my understanding that the team is for sale," he said. “That's a decision that I can't make as a minority owner but Kevin Kalkhoven would make. They’ve got an old saying, ‘He who writes the big check makes the big decisions.’ So you’re not talking to the right guy."
A more realistic scenario for 2013 involves a single-car KV Racing program partnering with a fellow single-car Chevy team.
Another rumor surfaced at Fontana, with KV said to be joining forces with Ed Carpenter Racing. KV is also believed to have reached out to HVM Racing about a possible alliance.
I sought out Kalkhoven at Fontana to inquire about KV possibly merging with another team, coincidentally, he happened to ride by on his scooter and turned left at the ECR trailer.
I followed behind to see if he had a moment to speak, but he was already being greeted outside by ECR co-owner Tony George. The two grabbed drinks from a cooler and walked inside Carpenter's trailer.
A follow-up request to speak with Kalkhoven was declined. Speed.com
