24 Hours of Indianapolis?  Oh My!

A reader asks, Dear AR1.com If the GRAND-AM series proves successful, IMS officials can begin exploring longer endurance races; while a "24 Hours of Indianapolis" seems like a far-fetched idea at the moment, it could also become a massive draw in the future, similar to that of the 24 Hours of Daytona. Derrick Kune

Dear Derrick, The crown jewel race for Grand-Am is the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. You could shoot a cannon in the grandstands for that race and not hit anyone. The grandstands are a ghost town. We're not sure who the mental midget was who thought the Grand-Am at Indy was all of a sudden going to be this big draw, but they have their head buried in the sand. They may get a few NASCAR fans who are in town for the Brickyard 400 and are bored stiff on Friday and Saturday and may watch the Grand-Am if someone gives them a free ticket. We have to wonder how much the money France family is paying the George family to allow the Grand-Am to race at Indy. Yet another type of racing at Indy to dilute the popularity of IndyCar Racing. You can only sell so many race tickets in a market before you kill it. Indy has already reached that point. They still cannot sell-out the Indy 500, the Brickyard 400 tickets sales are in a tailspin, the MotoGP has all but failed, and the F1 race is long gone. And the mental midgets want to add yet another series. Mark C.
