DPi's will head into the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season with additional power as well as reduced minimum weights, with LMP2 cars pegged back, IMSA has confirmed.

The sanctioning body released the initial 2019 Balance of Performance on Friday, ahead of next month’s Roar Before the Rolex 24 pre-season test at Daytona.

While wholesale changes have been made in all four classes, the new-for-2019 DPi category will see slightly more powerful cars compared to the combined Prototype class utilized over the last two seasons.

All four DPi manufacturers have seen a power increase, either through turbo boost adjustments or a larger air restrictor in the case of the Cadillac DPi-V.R, with maximum RPMs also increased for the Cadillac and Mazda RT24-P.

An all-new power curve has been declared for the Mazda, which features a revised AER-tuned powerplant for 2019, along with adjusted front aero configurations for the Multimatic-built prototype.

While DPis have been additionally given weight reductions, all LMP2 cars gain 10kg of minimum weight, along with a reduction in maximum RPMs compared to this year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Fuel capacity has also been reduced for the Gibson-engined entries.

Changes have been made across the board in GT Le Mans and GT Daytona, with only the Corvette C7.R and Mercedes-AMG GT3 remaining in the same configuration compared to the 2018 season-opener.

As in recent years, IMSA has implemented a Daytona-specific BoP for all classes, with adjustments possible between the Roar and the Jan. 26-27 race, which will kick off the WeatherTech Championship season. sportscar365
