UPDATE Added video of Wicken's crash below. He hit the wall exiting Turn 2, which in turn broke the suspension and caused him to crash on the straight.

05/21/18 No. 6 Robert Wickens hit the Safer Barrier with his right rear wheel exiting Turn 2 in practice today the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The contact damaged the car's suspension and about 100 meters down the backstraight the car turned right into the outside wall.

Wickens walked away unhurt but his team has some major repairs to do.

Today is the last day of practice before Carb Day on Friday, so it's all about race setups today.

It's bad enough for the team that it's most popular driver James Hinchcliffe will not be in the Indianapolis 500 after being bumped from the field on Bump Day, but now his teammate, rookie Robert Wickens, crashed his number-6 car in practice this afternoon.

"I just lost the rear of the car in Turn 2. I caught it and then lost it and then caught it again, but by then I just ran out of track and brushed the wall," Wickens said outside the infield care center at IMS. "Pretty bad suspension damage on both sides."
