Gene, de la Rosa, may race Le Mans in 2007

UPDATE (GMM) Ferrari test driver Marc Gene has successfully negotiated a seat for June's 24 hour Le Mans race.

According to reports earlier this week, the Spaniard's rumored links to Peugeot's lineup for the world famous endurance race in 2007 became the subject of an intense discussion between the two marques.

32-year-old Gene's F1 role at Ferrari this year will likely be limited, due to the new agreement to limit testing.

He raced once in 2006 in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS), and his brother Jordi is a Le Mans regular.

The Spanish newspaper 'Diario As' claims that Ferrari boss Jean Todt has now given his approval to Gene's contract, and that McLaren tester Pedro de la Rosa could be his teammate for the diesel-powered Peugeot 908.

01/04/07 Ferrari test driver Marc Gene has been invited by Peugeot to join the car manufacturer in the 24 hours of Le Mans this year. Gene has yet to react on the invitation. It is uncertain if Ferrari will allow Gene to race for a different car brand in the worlds oldest car race. Champ Car driver Sebastien Bourdais, who is French, is also trying to land a ride with the French manufacturer for the twice around the clock classic. The event will be held on the 16th and 17th of June.
