How much longer before NASCAR owns USAC?

How much longer before NASCAR (and ISC – both owned by the France family) buys USAC and owns the short tack open wheel grassroots series? Not long we suspect as they pretty much run the series today just reading this Indy Star article:

The U.S. Auto Club celebrated the one-year anniversary of its Silver Crown experiment Saturday at Kansas Speedway with a meeting with its most important partner. To hear USAC president Rollie Helmling tell of discussions with officials from International Speedway Corp., a celebration is in order for the Indianapolis-based sanctioning body.

"They talked not only about 2007, but '08 and '09 as well," Helmling said of ISC's brass. "I think it's fair to say they believe in the concept."

Andrew Gurtis, ISC's managing director of operational planning and integration, said his company supports USAC's direction. It bears noting that ISC's former chairman, Bill France, encouraged USAC to overhauled the series with new cars capable of running on ISC's speedways.

Not everyone has been so accepting of the plan, however. Only 14 cars were at Kansas as most of the former Silver Crown car owners opted not to buy new equipment. Helmling and ISC remain undeterred. More at Indy Star
