1987 Indianapolis 500 on ABC

The ABC broadcast of the 1987 CART IndyCar Indianapolis 500. Mario Andretti dominated the race but Al Unser Sr. lucked into the win when Andretti's valve spring broke on his Chevy with less than 50 miles to go. Up until he broke, Andretti was five laps ahead of Unser. Andretti's engineer was Adrian Newey – now Chief Designer for the Red Bull F1 team. Note the size of the crowd before Tony George destroyed the sport. Not an empty seat and note the size of the infield crowd.
