Germany to challenge tobacco ad ban

The German government is reported to be planning to take legal action to stop the European Union imposing a ban on tobacco advertising. The move comes in response to the EU health commissioner Markos Kyprianou's plan to take Germany to the European court for its refusal to implement the EU ban on tobacco advertising.

New European legislation came into force on August 1 last year, banning all print advertising, radio advertising and event sponsorship by tobacco companies. Grandprix.com
