Rosberg and McLaren

UPDATE #2 (GMMf1NET ) Sir Frank Williams has added his vehement denial to F1 speculation that rookie Nico Rosberg could be sold to McLaren next year.

The 20-year-old German has attracted a lot of attention so far in 2006, but team boss Williams clearly sees no parallel to the situation of last season, when the sale of Jenson Button proved a mighty revenue stream for his Grove based outfit.

Nico, it is clear, is not for sale.

''I don't think I even have to comment,'' the Briton – who took Rosberg's father Keke to the 1982 crown – winked to newspaper 'Welt'.

''Nico has a wider technical knowledge than his father, he is very fast and aggressive and has a big future,'' said Frank.

03/30/06 (GMMf1NET) F1 rookie Nico Rosberg, 20, has fended off rumors that he could switch to McLaren at the end of the 2006 season.

The young German, to start only his third career grand prix on Sunday, said in Melbourne that he is on a long term contract for Frank Williams' team.

Nico insisted: ''I am very happy where I am.''

''Williams supported me a lot, they helped me to reach formula one, and it's all going well so far.''

Rosberg's title-winning father and manager Keke, meanwhile, has similarly played a straight bat to the speculation, but he did reveal that the length of his son's Williams contract is 'less' than 5 years.

03/29/06 (GMMf1NET) The hot rumor in the Albert Park paddock is that Williams' impressive rookie Nico Rosberg is being chased by McLaren for the '07 season.

Allegedly, Ron Dennis met with Sir Frank Williams at the Sepang circuit last fortnight, with reports suggesting a discussed transfer fee of up to $30 million for the 20-year-old's long term contract.

With Fernando Alonso set to arrive at McLaren next year, both current drivers – Kimi Raikkonen and Juan Pablo Montoya – could be eyeing alternate futures.

The Rosberg rumor maintains that McLaren's highly rated GP2 talent Lewis Hamilton could be a part of the Williams trade.

Intriguingly, a spokesman for Mercedes-Benz only conditionally denied the gossip, and praised the young German.

''(The team and Rosberg) are not currently speaking about a common future in formula one,'' he told the 'sid' news agency.

''As long as our 2007 lineup is not finalized, it is only normal that there are rumors.

''We have been impressed with Nico's achievements so far this season. We know him well. With our support he successfully raced karts with (Hamilton).''

Meanwhile, Nico's father – 1982 champion Keke Rosberg – played a straight bat when confronted with the rumor.

''Nico is very happy where he is now,'' he said.

''You know formula one — if you have a good weekend, then good things are said, but it also goes the other way.''
