Bourdais to NASCAR

Motors TV in the UK/Europe aired a 30 minute interview with two-time Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais this past weekend, titled "Champ Bourdais".

In it he says that if he doesn't land the F1 seat he wants in 2007, which is looking more and more unlikely, he may turn to NASCAR and he says that Mark Martin is helping him get a ride.

He also talks about how he would have loved to drive the new Champ Car in 2006 and that it's a shame it's coming out a year later. Reading between the lines, this suggests he isn't intending to be in Champ Car when the new car launches in 2007.

However, if a merger between the IRL and Champ Car is announced soon, and the future suddenly looks very bright for open wheel racing, Bourdais, Tracy and others who may be eyeing NASCAR may quickly have second thoughts about leaving and stay in the new revitalized IndyCar Series.
