FIA, GPMA divided on standard ECU – Report

The chances of a final agreement being reached between the manufacturers and the FIA to head off the threat of a breakaway now depend on a deal over standard ECUs in Formula One, autosport.com reports.

The Autosport article says that high level sources say there remain major differences of opinion between the manufacturers and the FIA over plans for a standard ECU.

Supposedly Mosley held talks with individual manufacturer representatives over the course of the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend and the one consistent area of concern for each of the carmakers was the standard ECU. Mosley believes that standard ECUs are best for F1 to eliminate cheating, traction control and high costs. The FIA even has gone as far as putting out a request for proposal to various companies who may bid on being the 'spec' ECU supplier.
