Scott to Speed up Indy repair?

Scott Speed's full time 2006 seat will help improve formula one's injured image in the US.

In June, the pinnacle of motor sport trampled on efforts to woo the huge American market by putting on the ridiculous six-car farce.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway president Joie Chitwood confirmed not only that the F1 contract runs out in 2006, but that he would not discuss with the press the future of the event.

But he told the 'Globe and Mail': ''Having Scott or any American in the US grand prix field will help raise the interest level of the event.''

Speed, who drove the one-off 'Friday' Red Bull spare car in the country this year, has signed to race for Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2006.

Chitwood added: ''An American in the series consistently is more important for the long run, and we hope Scott is just the beginning of that much-needed trend.''

What he fails to realize is that Speed will be a backmarker with the old Minardi team and American race fans are not going to be impressed enough to buy a ticket to see a backmarker run.
